As the chair of the TOC, I get to cast one vote in the ongoing election of 2 additional TOC seats by the GB members. Since this vote represents the TOC, I wanted to make sure I have the full perspective of the TOC members.

I'm not sure if I can share the candidate list, and I don't want to turn this into a beauty contest anyway. So instead, what I'm going to try is to describe some characteristics that I'm going to use to value one candidate over the other. In no particular order:

• Prefer people who can spend time: everyone is busy, so time & attention is the most precious resource. I favor people who can afford to spend time in the CDF with us.
• Prefer people who can build communities: building/growing community and focusing on human aspect is a different skill set to the skill of writing killer software. I believe the TOC needs more of the former, where the latter is needed inside projects.
• Past experience is a useful indicator of future: I believe in people with relevant experience from the past.
• Prefer team players: we need to work together as a team, so I prefer people who can work in a team than a super star who can't.
• Prefer more diversity: I don't mean this just for political correctness. I see this as a variation of "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow." We want people who can look at things from different angles than existing members. People from different companies, people from different countries/continents, different genders, etc. It's OK that the difference by itself doesn't seem to add any obvious value. More about what I mean here.

I'd appreciate anyone's input on what characteristics they'd like to see. I'll do my best to use those as a guide to cast the vote.
