Hi all,
This year Google organizes the third edition of Google Season of Docs. This is an open-source outreach program which targets introducing professional and amateur technical writers to open source.
I wonder whether other CDF projects and SIGs would be interested to participate. If so, we could apply as the Continuous Delivery Foundation entuity like in GSoC. Would anyone be interested?

With Jenkins, Ortelius and potentially CDF itself I'm happy to say we can do this under the CDF umbrella.
Any volunteers to help be GSoD admin? We can set up a call to deal with the application next week.

Hi all,
Just a quick update, there were changes in the GSoD 2021 organization. This year the application approach will be different ( guidelines): - Each project can submit onl;y one project proposal. This proposal should also include the budget request
- Google will review applications and select projects
- Each selected project is responsible to "hire" a technical writer to work on the project and to handle the stipend payments. In the case of the Jenkins project, we can do it via LFX.
So it does not make sense to send a joint application as CDF. Each project/SIG can send their own application, and it is also possible to send a separate proposal from CDF.
Best regards, Oleg Nenashev

All,
Just a reminder that the deadline for organization application for GSoD 2021 is coming up this Friday March 26th.
As mentioned above each CDF project should submit their own application (one project proposal). Payments can be handled via CDF (& the LFX platform if needed). Jenkins has participated before so please ask here or in slack if any help needed for your applications.
Thanks, Tracy

We can manage the payments to the technical writer via DeployHub if we are selected.
For Jenkins we will be using a combination of LFX Crowdfunding and LFX Mentorship for payments. It allows handling payments through the Linux Foundation, and the flow can be set up quickly. It might be a good option for CDF projects which cannot do a payment through another org.
Not that this way works for stipends or insensitive payments, and it cannot be used for anything that could be interpreted as a "salary". I am not a lawyer, but from what I know not all country laws allow the distinction so that payments could happen.
