Hi all, I propose that the CDF issue a statement of solidarity with Ukraine in light of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. The statement would be focused on encouraging humanitarian support and assistance for the humanitarian crisis that is unfolding. Numerous tech organisations have offered such statements in the last few days, including foundations that are part of the Linux Foundation. For example, the OpenJS foundation has placed the following banner on their website, with a link to donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross: We could make a similar statement, for example: We stand with the people of Ukraine. Please assist humanitarian efforts for the Ukrainian people and those affected by the military invasion of Ukraine by supporting international aid organisations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Please respond with your feedback and opinions, including on the wording of the statement. Thank you. Kind regards,
Kara de la Marck

Please, everyone be aware that the GitHub Issues section of some Open Source projects have already been used to promote pro-invasion propaganda.
Should we consider issuing advice to projects on how to handle this situation and how to prepare for potential retaliatory attacks on the Open Source supply chain?

This is very thoughtful. Providing a legitimate organization to support is also a good idea.

+1 from me. I am a Russian citizen and personally would prefer a message addressing the dire situation in Belarus and Russia too (people being jailed and sent to death), but I do not object a message solely focused on the war in Ukraine

The banner is now live! https://cd.foundation/ We've kept the original wording with the intention that the phrase " and those affected by the military invasion of Ukraine" addresses groups outside of Ukraine or those who identify as Ukrainian. Given that this is a banner, we want to keep the wording as simple as possible. The continued presence of Russian troops in Belarus has been at the request of the Belarus president. This isn't to deny the gravity of the situation in Belarus, but to point out that it is more complicated.
Thank you all for your feedback! Kind regards,
